The Kite Runner Essay -- Khaled Hosseini Afghani and Islamic culture

Khaled Hosseinis best-selling novel, The kite Runner, is an eye-opening look intoAfghani and Islamic finale through the painful memories of an American immigrant, Amir.Hosseinis novel is liberal with beautiful imagery and settings. The book also masterfully tells ofdisturbing events and very real characters. Perhaps Hosseinis greatest achievement is his vastand quite in force(p) use of symbolism in The Kite Runner. One such recurring symbol is thepomegranate. The pomegranates rich symbolic history from cultures around the population providesmany different interpretations as to the various ideas the pomegranate represents. The KiteRunner can be viewed as an analogy for the well-known story of decade and evenings expulsionfrom the Garden of Eden by interpreting the pomegranate as the veto fruit. Many people are familiar with the story of Adam and Eves fall from paradise in theBook of Genesis in the Old Testament or from the Hebrew Torah. What may be little familiar topeople is t hat a similar story is also found in the Koran. The Koran states, O Adam Dwell thouand thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye plentifully there from whatever ye list but to this treecome not nigh, lest ye become of the transgressors. But Satan made them slip from it, andcaused their ostracism from the place in which they were (Rodwell 6). The Koran does notexplicitly state the type of tree that was forbidden, just as the Book of Genesis only tells of anunnamed forbidden fruit. This forbidden fruit is commonly believed to have been an apple. Many scholars now believe, though, that the forbidden fruit of scripture was actually apomegranate. The transformation in common culture of pomegranate to apple may have had manycauses. Allen Ginsberg Essay -- Biography Bio Poet

Allen Ginsberg, Covert PatriotAllen Ginsberg is, without a doubt, most famous for his poem howling which he published in October of 1956 through City Lights Books in San Francisco. scream, like much of his other poetry, is an intensely personal and also very complex poetic expression scatty rhyme and, to many people, also lacking reason. In actuality, however, Howl serves as an autobiographical sketch and it acts, in some ways, as a precursor to his lesser known poem from the same publication, America, which is his lowest articulation of his love for his country and his disillusionment with its current state of affairs. Together, both of these poems form a culmination (as of 1956) of the journals he had been keeping throughout his life-time and ar the final howl of the simultaneous love and discontent with his situation as well as that of his country. Through Howl and America Ginsberg is expressing his disillusionment with American acculturation and his own life by retelling h is own life experiences however, he is also demonstrating a love of America and American culture that he has held throughout his life and which he, finally, was able to put down in poetic verse in his compilation Howl and Other Poems. From a very early age, Ginsbergs life was chaotic, and that, in turn, produced a disenchanted view of society. His parents were both extremely politically active and were not in political agreement. As a result government was a subject to which he became accustomed rather early because his mother, Naomi, was a member of the Communist part and his father, Louis, was a Democratic Socialist (Miles 6). Naomi and Louis fought often about politics and the situation, no doubt, left Ginsberg both passionate and confused about poli... ...sberg as a cynic, it is crucial to remember that, both as a poet and as a person, he is much more complex, as is his view of the country. Ginsberg was not anti-American, he loved a great deal about America and felt awestricke n about its situation in the 1950s. Ginsberg was simply another man who wanted change.ReferencesCaveney, Graham. Screaming with Joy the Life of Allen Ginsberg. New York Broadway Books, 1999.Foster, Edward Halsey. Of Mice and Men :: essays research papers

The title of the disc is Of Mice and Men. The author is John Steinbeck. It was published by the Penguin Group in New York, New York. The copyright date is 1965.Of Mice and Men is a novel about two men, one named George and one named Lennie. George somewhat takes care of Lennie. As the book opens they are walking along the bank of the Salinas River. They are one the way to a nearby ranch to sign on as barley bucks. Slow-minded Lennie had address them their previous job. They are trying to earn money so they will be able to own their own ranch someday. Lennie has an obsession with petting weakened animals especially rabbits. George tells Lennie that he if he gets in any trouble he wont be able to tend the rabbits at the farm. George uses this as a purchase to keep Lennie out of trouble. Once they were hired, both George and Lennie went right to work. Later, as they waited for lunch to be served, Curley walked in, the ranch owners son. He was there to look over the new men. afterwa rds Curley had gone, Candy, the bunkhouse swamper, warned them about the young man. A former prizefighter, Curley tried to show how much of a man he was by picking on others. He was besides an insecure husband, he became insanely jealous of anyone who even got near his wife. Seeming to sense that Curley would bring them trouble, Lennie now became agitated and nervous about the job, but with no money to fall back on, the pair was forced to continue working at the ranch in order to make enough money for their vision farm.On the third day at the ranch Lennie was in the farm playing with a puppy that Slim, another worker at the ranch, had given him. The simpleness of the men were in town. While he was in the barn Curleys wife walked in. She began to show him how soft her hair was because he seemed to like the soft sense of the dog. He began to touch her hair and he couldnt let go. She began to struggle and soon after she suffocated and died. After he realizd she was dead he panicked . He cover her body with some hay and then ran and hid in the brush like George had told him to do if he got in any trouble.

Reasons for the Increase in Housing Profits in India

Reasons for the Increase in Housing Profits in India 3y josalonso The recent global economic recession has generated many problems worldwide, such as change magnitude unemployment, lack of consumer confidence and reductions in salaries and wages. in India, Delhi and Mumbai are among nine cities which have seen marginal increase in house prices in the July-September quarter with Kochi topping the chart, a latest National Housing Bank (NHB) survey showed on Friday. Prices in Delhi rose 3. 8% from the previous quarter while Mumbai posted an increase of 0. %. Kochi save the sharpest rise with a increase in the September quarter. Low interest grade, the amount borrowers paid to lenders for the ability to use the money, would cause a shift in demand, the skill and Willingness to consume a commodity, below (Figure I, D to 01). This iS because consumers are inspired to borrow extra, that would lead to increased spending. Consequently, the equilibrium should move from A to S, emerging in a n increase in price(P to P I) and an increase in demand.Furthermore, low Interest rates should lead to lower mortgage repayments, hence ermitting homecuners, normally predicted to vend their residences during a recession, to no longer doing so. An inwards shift In the supply ot homes would be caused(below). the skill and willingness to furnish a cornmodlty, as less proprietors select to vend their houses. ever-changing the equilibrium. the worth should rise from PO to Pt. Overall. the change in worth (PO to P2) should number to 3. 8% it was predicted that after at that place is a development in attention rates in the approaching month . he housing marketplace could experience little fall in average price. This is because as attention rates rise. there is a higher tendency to save than spend. Thus. the demand would shifts inwards Also. homecaners could favor to vend their houses because of higher mortgages, making the supply move outwards . A upcoming rise in attention rates could alter desperate stakeholders in assorted ways, Those who have elevated mortgage repayments could vend their residences and pursue to find little and cheaper housing, Consequently, the demand for small residences could rise, as emand for larger residences could decrease. The article presents the soon housing Will fall more This iS upheld by the anticipation Of higher attention rates. Also, because client assurance iS IOW due to the globe commercial recession, after supply catches up alongside demand, it could be said that the benefits will not go any further. Hence, an economists should differentiate that it is most probable that the benefits will fall. In supply, the rise of worth added tax In January back to the preceding rate of 17. 6 , should cause there to be an Increase In employment to compensate for the higher prices. Thus, less customers should be able and keen to buy new residences and demand should drop, leading to The article states the reasons for why India houseing pro fits increased by 3. 8%. In conclusion, the article is precise in its Justification, the prices of housing in india has to reach the equilibrium point or els falls will continue to occur. As well as the government would need to implement price floors or celaings.

Nano Chemistry Essay

1.1 DefinitionNanochemistry is concerned with generating and altering chemical systems, which develop special and often new effects as a result of the laws of the nanoworld. The bases for these ar chemically active nanometric units such as supramolecules or nanocrystals. Nanochemistry looks set to make a great deal of progress for a large number of diligence sectors. Nanotechnology exists in the realm where many scientific disciplines meet. Achievements in physics are getting progressively tinyer from valves to electronics, down to microelectronics and quantum computing. It mirrors the downsizing in focus in the biological sciences, from cells to genomics. Conversely, achievements in chemistry have been converging into the nanometre figure of speech from below from atoms and molecules to supramolecular chemistry.Nanochemisty focuses on the unique properties of materials in the 1100 nm scale. The physical, chemical, electrical, optical and magnetic properties of these materials are all signifi beartly different from both the properties of the individual construct blocks (individual atoms or molecules), and also from the hoi polloi materials.Nanochemistry is a truly multidisciplinary field, forming a bridge among nanotechnology and biotechnology, spanning the physical and life sciences. The Nanochemistry Research Institute (NRI) at Curtin carries out world-class research to will innovative solutions to energy and resources materials and manufacturing electronics agricultural environmental management, and health and health check industriesNanochemistry applications in the materials, resources and energy sectors range from the design of crystalline catalysts and the control of crystal size, morphology, phase and purity, to the design and use of additives to control crystallization and inhibit scale formation. In the biological field, control of chemistry at the supramolecular level can lead to the development of a wide variety of new and improved biomat erials, such as artificial bones and tissues, as well as new pharmaceuticals and improved methods of drug delivery.1ENGINEERING, SCIENCEWe are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can adopt more than they. Bernard of Chartres, 12th century with nanoscience being the discipline concerned with making, manipulating and imaging materials having at least one spatial dimension in the size range 11000 nm and nanotechnology being a device or machine, product or process, based upon individual or multiple integrated nanoscale components, then what is nanochemistry? In its broadest terms, the de.ning feature of nanochemistry is the utilization of synthetic chemistry to make nanoscale building blocks of different size and shape, composition and develop anatomical structure, posture and functionality. These building blocks may be useful in their own right. Or in a self-assembly construction process, spontaneous, directed by templates or guided by chemically or lithographically de.ned surface patterns, they may form architectures that perform an intelligent function and portend a particular use.21.2 Objective of nanochemistry Creating nanoparticles Allowing properties of nanosystems to evolve, manipulating and controlling them Encapsulating and transporting materials (e.g. deodorant with nanodroplets)41.3 Nanochemistry used in Cosmetics, e.g. sunscreen, toothpaste, skincare products salutary ware Built-in ovens and baking trays Gas-tight packaging Screens, photographic films Separating technology for waste water treatment and food production Catalysers for chemical reactions Exhaust purification5It is also used in formation of - Commercialization of nanochemicals Nanooxides of precious, ferromagnetic, rare metals (Ti, Zr etc.)Nanopolymers and membranes Nanomaterials (cement, fertilizers) Nanopowders in chemical applications Nanogreen chemistry Nano energy applications Environmental applications of nanotechnologyWhen thinking about self-assembly of a targ eted structure from the spontaneous organization of building blocks with dimensions that are beyond the sub-nanometer scale of most molecules or macromolecules, there are five prominent principles that need to be taken into consideration. These are (i) building blocks, scale, shape, surface structure, (ii) attractive and repulsive interactions between building blocks, equilibrium separation, (iii) reversible associationdissociation and/or adaptable motion of building blocks in assembly, lowest energy structure, (iv) building block interactions with solvents, interfaces, templates, (v) building-blocks dynamics, mass transport and agitation. A challenge for perfecting structures make by this kind of self-assembly chemistry is to .nd ways of synthesizing (bottom-up) or fabricating (top-down) building blocks not only with the right composition but also having the same size and shape. No matter which way building blocks are made they are never truly monodisperse, nless they happen to be single atoms or molecules. There always exists a degree of polydispersity in their size and shape, which is manifest in the achievable degree of structural perfection of the assembly and the nature and population of defects in the assembled system. Equally demanding is to make building blocks with a particular surface structure, charge and functionality. Surface properties will control the interactions between building blocks as well as with their environment, which ultimately determines the geometry and distances at which building blocks come to equilibrium in a self-assembled system. Relative motion between building blocks facilitates collisions between them, whilst energetically allowed aggregation deaggregation processes and corrective movements of the self-assembled structure will allow it to attain the most stable form.6 Providing the building blocks are not too strongly bound in the assembly it will be able to adjust to an orderly structure. If on the former(a) hand the buildi ng blocks in the assembly are too strongly interacting, they will be unable to adjust their relative positions within the assembly and a less 1 ordered structure will result. Dynamic effects involving building blocks and assemblies can occur in the naiant phase, at an air/liquid or liquid/liquid interface, on the surface of a substrate or within a template co-assembly.As this text describes, building blocks can be made out of most known organic, inorganic, polymeric, and hybrid materials. Creative ways of making spheres and cubes, sheets and discs, wires and tubes, rings and spirals, with nm to cm dimensions, abound in the materials self-assembly literature. They provide the basic construction modules for materials self-assembly over all scales, a new way of synthesizing electronic, optical, photonic, magnetic materials with hierarchical structures and complex form, which is the central theme running byout this chapter. A .owchart describing these main ideas is shown in igure 1.Na no-, a pre.x denoting a factor, its origin in the Greek nanos, meaning dwarf. The term is often associated with the time interval of a nanosecond, a billionth of a second, and the length scale of a nanometer, a billionth of a meter or 10 A . In its broadest terms, nanoscience and nanotechnology congers up visions of making, imaging, manipulating and utilizing things really small. Feynmans prescient nano world on the head of a pin inspires scientists and technologists to venture into this uncharted nano-terrain to do something big with something small.71.4 Large and Small NanomaterialsIt was not so hanker ago in the world of molecules and materials that 1 nm (1 nm 10 A ) was considered large in chemistry while 1 m m (1 m m 1000 nm 10,000 A ) was considered small in engineering physics. Matter residing in the fuzzy interface between these large and small extremes of length scales emerged as the science of nanoscale materials and has grown into one of the most exciting and vibr ant fields of endeavor, showing all the signs of having a revolutionary impact on materials as we know them today. In our time, nano has left the science reservation and entered the industrial technology consciousness and public and political perception.Indeed, bulk materials can be remodeled through bottom-up synthetic chemistry and top-down engineering physics strategies as nanomaterials in two main ways, the first by reducing one or more of their physical dimensions to the nanoscale and the second by providing them with nanoscale porosity. When talking about finely divided and porous forms of nanostructured matter, it is found that nanomaterials characteristically exhibits physical and chemical properties different from the bulk as a consequence of having at least one spatial dimension in the size range of 11000 nm.

Many have lost homes and families through violent burglaries in some countries ? Some of them lost most precious things such as Jewelry, Vehicles, huge investments in banks etc.. ? This led to the development of ALARM SYSTEM Basic circuit apprehension Interface ? We use LDR to detect optical maser Light. LDR pin was Fed to Op-Amp stimulant drug leg. ? Clock pulse to 4017 was taken from Op-Amp output pin. Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) ? LDRs or Light Dependent Resistors are very useful especially in light/dark demodulator circuits. Normally the resistance of an LDR is very high, one-time(prenominal)s as high as 1000 000 ohms , but when they are illuminated with light resistance drools dramatically. ? Which acts as an sensor for our circuit. Op-Amp-741 ? The OP AMP is a Linear Amplifier ? Its main(prenominal) social occasion is to amplify (increase) a weak manoeuver ? The OP-AMP has two inputs, INVERTING -2nd pin and NONINVERTING 3rd pin, and one output at pin 6 1.An inverting amplifier ? Leg two is the input and the output is always reversed. In an inverting amplifier the voltage enters the 741 chip through leg two and comes out of the 741 chip at leg six. If the polarity is cocksure issue into the chip, it becomes negative by the time it comes out through leg six. The polarity has been inverted. 2. A non-inverting amplifier ? Leg three is the input and the output is not reversed. In a non-inverting amplifier the voltage enters the 741 chip through leg three and leaves the 741 chip through leg six. This time if it is positive going into the 741 past it is still positive coming out.Polarity remai ns the same. How it helps ? ? When the illumination on LDR stops its resistance increases so the leg 2 of Op-Amp gets less voltage. ? Then it acts as non-Inverting amplifier. ? It gives high voltage to transistor which ultimately passes current to buzzer and the buzzer buzzes. 4017-Timer ? The 4017 decade counter has ten outputs which go HIGH in sequence when a source of pulses is connected to the time input and when suitable logic levels are applied to the RESET and ENABLE inputs. ? The decoder receives serial address and data from a RF receiver which catches data through antenna. ? It compares the serial input data 3 times continuously with its local address. If no error or matched codes are found then the input data codes are decoded and then transferred to the output pin. The VT pin also goes high to indicate a Valid Transmission (VT). conjoin ? ? We used chip sockets for conjoin purpose, So that we can prevent chips burning out while bonding. We used female strip for soldering in do to prevent RF-Transmitter and Receiver from burning offs. Individual Contributions Nagendra Chowdary Before deciding on this proposal of LASER base intruder detection and security system, we had ideas just about two or three other projects. We sat down in chemical group and took up this project because we could divide work to each and every particle in this project.I came up with the idea of using RF Transmitter and receiver so that in case of intruder detection, we can alarm the security psyche at some other place. I also pass considerable time on studying about the Slot Sensors which we have used to well-groundedate the portal of an authentic someone. Apart from this, soldering was not an easy task for us as we were doing it for the first time. We organise mistakes during soldering and had to de-soldering the circuit many another(prenominal) times. repayable to this, we all had to contribute to soldering part in turns.Circuit assembling was the most important aspect of our project. Earlier we had taken up a circuit from Electronics For You magazine. We spent almost two days on assembling that circuit but it didnt work. After that we decided to change the circuit and or else of using LASER detecting diode, we used photo resistors. We tried to make the circuit simpler, so I stu died all the components of the circuit and tried to remove some of them to take on if the circuit was still functioning. Apart from this, I compiled the data given by my group members to make the final presentation.Abhinav Tripathi Id 201101001. We had decide to make a LASER based intruder detection alarm but I thought that it will be better to make it into a security system to validate the entry of authentic people. For this purpose I thought of making a card swapping system using LED and photoresistors so that when a person comes with a valid card the buzzer should not beep. Later, we searched internet and I decided to use slot sensors for this purpose. All the group members, suggested ways of integrating the buzzer and the sensor embrasure to ensure desired functionality.Soldering seemed to be tough task for us. I started with the soldering and was later joined by other group members too. I also made contribution in debugging the circuit several times when it didnt work. All o f us studied about the various components of the circuit. I did focused study of the Timer- 4017 and the encoder used in RF transmitter. Apart from this, I also devoted time to understand the functioning of the slot sensors and causeing equivalent resistance for slot sensor circuit, implemented it in our circuit. Srinivas SriVasthav Bontula Id-201101025.After we decided on the topic that is Laser Based interloper Alarm. I came up the Circuit . Our first attempt was a failure. In our first attempt we used Voltage Regulator IC-7805 , Phototransistor L14F1, Opamp IC-LM356, Timer IC-555, Transistor BC548. Then we searched for various others circuits, finally while watching some videos on Laser Alarms We found out a circuit . In our second attempt we connected this circuit and it worked. The components we used in this circuit are foreknow 4017, instead of Phototransistor in the previous circuits we used a LDR( light dependantResistor) , Opamp IC-741. After we finished the basic Las er Circuit we came up with this idea of using an RF Transmitter and Reciever , so that we detect the alarm at the place we want. I also spent some time in studying and understanding the circuit. I did my part in connecting the circuit. We assigned tasks to every member of our group regarding the working principles of Laser Circuit, Transmitter , Reciever , Slot Sensor. My task was to study and understand the working of Laser Alarm circuit. First we connected everything on the Breadboard and checked whether the circuit worked. And then finally we soldered the RF transmitter and Reciever on the PCB. I also helped in soldering the circuit. Even after we finished everything our circuit didnt function properly twice or thrice at that time I helped in debugging the circuit. Karan J. Dave ID 201101019 I was very excited to do project after we decided the project of Laser Based Security Alarm. First of all I tried to find some circuits of such project in Google and YouTube. We found some 2-3 circuits from different source but in 2 of them we chased many problems regarding to buzz on and off alarm. Finally we got one circuit from YouTube.I studied about chips which are used in that circuit. I studied about LDR, OP-AMP and 4017 TIMER. I got the chance to know about inverting and non-inverting OP-AMP. I studied about 4017 TIMER from its datasheet got from the internet and I had known about that from my friends also. I studied about HT12E (Encoder) which was used in RF-Transmitter and HT12D (Decoder) used in RF-Receiver. I did soldering of some of the circuits. I did circuit assembling and debugging with my friends. I did also resource-management work for our project. I really enjoyed the whole project by doing this all things. Thanks to you sir for giving us this wonderful opportunity. From our project we have learnt group-work, time-management and we could feel that now we are the engineers. T Pavan Nagaraju Id 201101024 Initially I helped in connecting a Alarm Based cir cuit Interface which consists of Voltage Regulator IC-7805 , Phototransistor L14F1, Opamp IC-LM356, Timer IC-555, Transistor BC548. But we are unable to get The Desired Output from It then We Switched to a circuit that does the work of alarm and many of our group mates were not able to understand the working of IC 4017 Timer.Which works using Jonson call I understood the Concept and working principle of the Jonson Counter Which is basically made of 5 bi-stable (D-Flip flops) I understood that which a Logic from this 10 states of the Jonson Counter the output pins get hot coded high output. And get to know how this reset button be useful and Implemented in this IC 4017 . As This IC 4017 is made of n-MOS I applied my Digital Logic Knowledge and come to know that there will be some Dynamic Hazards. I had soldered the Receiver part in the RF Receiver And understood why encoding is necessary In any signal transmission .So we can have patch recovery and Safe Signal transmission. I work ed in circuit assembling and debugging circuits. I did the credential part for the presentation regarding 4017-Timer and Receiver part. Archit Bakliwal ID 201101005. When we started our project, our key concern was to make a security alarm. But as we proceed further, we also used the idea of slot sensing which is mainly used for the entry of authentic person in banks, buildings etc. But later on, all of sudden, I thought that there is no part of communication in out project. Then everyone recognize that we have to do something more than just making an alarm. So, Then, I, along with one of my friend, came up with the idea of making receiver and transmission interface in our project. Soldering is referred as major part of making a circuit. Initially, it seemed to be difficult task because chips were more likely to burn but as I had a little experience with it, so it didnt remain a tough task for us. I have also played keen role in assembling the circuit which was not an easy task. I have also contributed in making the circuit and have done detailed study on functionality of various components of the circuit.Specially regarding Timer4017,LM71 Opamp, HT12e Encoder, HT12d Decoder, RWS 434 receiver, TWS 434 transmitter etc. This detailed study helped me to know about the components and analyzing the circuit for resource management and documentation. DHARMIK THAKKAR Id 201101006 Our Project was LASER BASED INTRUDER detecting ALARM which could be used for security system in building apartments, banks, malls, etc. The project was extended to validate the entry of some authentic person such that a person with valid card enters the buzzer shouldnt buzz. For this purpose slot sensors were used to keep a check upon valid entry. The project further used RF Transmitter and Receiver interface so that if some unauthentic entry takes place security system is alerted which was accomplished by glowing LEDs at Receiver interface. My role for the project was study of chips which i ncluded analysing availability and functionalities of LDR, TWS TRANSMITTER 434, RWS RECEIVER 434 and DECODER HT12D. I helped my team mates in Soldering purpose as it seemed to be tough task for us. Soldering purpose was successfully accomplished without burning chips by the use of chip sockets and female strips. I collected information regarding various phases i. . Alarm, Sensor and RF Transmitter and Receiver interfaces of our project and analysed the circuit for Resource Management and backup that could be used for Slide Preparation. I also helped in Circuit Assembling. Prasoon Id 201101036 After lots of ideas our group stick to the topic that is Laser Based Intruder Detector Alarm in which we created a body which contained a main circuit that produced voltage when light didnt fall on the LDR. The circuit contained many component that need to be study so I helped in understanding the function of opamp LM 741.The material for our project was dangerous to find sometime so I was th e one of the prime candidate for fetching these material. Our circuit also contained audrino board, Slot sensor(for security system) and RF transmitter and receiver these circuits were also hard to make but our group combined to make it look easy. I helped in assembling these circuit many times. Soldering also was a main part of our project which was a difficult task, I helped in many parts of the task also we needed to remove mistake from the circuit and documentation which was also a combined effort, In presentation every one had there slides to make.At the last its a combined effort by our group. Ankit Chaparwal ID 201101017. For the project everybody came up with new innovative ideas, at last we decided to make a laser based intruder detection alarm, but in group discussion we decided to make it in a security system to validate entry of an authentic person. For this purpose we used slot sensors. In the project I helped the Group members in soldering . Other then that I had assem bled the receivers circuit with one of the Group members and also prepared Slide for presentation on LDR .Studied on LDR and thought about how it can be used as a sensor in our circuit. Anuroop Kuppam My involvement in the project , coding the Arduino micro-controller. In our project Arduino provides an interface between the slot sensors and the alarm system. So the micro-controller needs to be coded. The micro-controller takes the input from the slot sensors and then decides whether to enable the alarm system or not. Hence the operating voltages margins of the micro-controller needs to be determined manually. After this was done we used these margins in making the micro-controller work accordingly. Having seen a lot of coding samples on the profits , I came up with a code which serves the purpose of the project . The code then was debugged in certain places and further processed and fine tuned to fit perfectly and decrease various delays that we have encountered in the course of m aking the alarm system. I also soldered the various components of the RF receiver and the slot sensor onto the punch circuit board and debugged the circuit to make it work.

Twilight 8. PORT ANGELES

8. PORT ANGELESJess drove faster than the Chief, so we do it to user inter display case Angeles by four. It had been a while since Id had a girls night out, and the estrogen rush was invigorating. We listened to whiny rock songs while Jessica jabbered on about the boys we hung out with. Jessicas dinner with mike had g unriva take very well, and she was hoping that by Saturday night they wouldhave progressed to the first-kiss stage. I smiled to myself, pleased. Angela was passively happy to be red ink to the bound, however non really interested in Eric. Jess assay to discombobulate her to confess who her type was, scarce I interrupted with a question about dresses after a bit, to spargon her. Angela threw a accep board glance my way.Port Angeles was a beautiful little tourist trap, such(prenominal) more polished and quaint than Forks. provided now Jessica and Angela knew it well, so they didnt plan to waste prison term on the picturesque board manner of walking by the b ay. Jess drove straight to the one big department store in town, which was a few streets in from the bay beas visitor-friendly face. The dance was billed as semiformal, and we werent exactly sure what that meant. Both Jessica and Angela follow through and throughmed surprised and almost disbelieving when I told them Id neer been to a dance in Phoenix.Didnt you ever go with a boyfriend or something? Jess asked dubiously as we walked through the front doors of the store.Really, I tried and true to convince her, not wanting to confess my dancing problems. Ive never had a boyfriend or anything close. I didnt go out much. Why not? Jessica demanded. No one asked me, I answered honestly. She toneed sunplowedical. People ask you out here, she reminded me, and you disunite them no. We were in the juniors section now, scanning the racks for dress-up clothes.Well, except for Tyler, Angela amended quietly.Excuse me? I gasped. What did you say?Tyler told everyone hes taking you to prom, Jessic a informed me with suspicious meats. He said what? I geted like I was choking.I told you it wasnt true, Angela murmured to Jessica.I was silent, stillness lost in shock that was quickly turning to irritation. simply we had found the dress racks, and now we had spurt to do.Thats why Lauren doesnt like you, Jessica giggled while we pawed through the clothes.I ground my teeth. Do you think that if I ran him oer with my truck he would stop feeling iniquitous about the accident? That he might give up on making amends and mention it even?Maybe, Jess snickered. If thats why hes doing this. The dress selection wasnt large, but both of them found a few things to try on. I sat on a low chair just inside the dressing room, by the three-way mirror, stressful to control my fuming.Jess was torn between deuce one a yen, bawl outless, basic nigrify number, the other a knee-length electric soft with spaghetti straps. I encouraged her to go with the blue why not play up the eye? Angela chose a pale garden pink dress that draped jolly her tall frame nicely and brought out honey tints in her light brown hair. I complimented them both generously and helped by returning the rejects to their racks. The whole mould was much shorter and easier than similar trips Id taken with Ren?e at sign of the zodiac. I barb there was something to be said for limited choices. We passing gameed over to shoes and accessories. While they tried things on I merely watched and critiqued, not in the mood to shop for myself, though I did need new shoes. The girls-night high was softening off in the wake of my annoyance at Tyler, leaving room for the gloom to move blanket in.Angela? I began, hesitant, while she was trying on a pair of pink strappy heels she was overjoyed to have a date tall enough that she could wear high heels at all.Jessica had drifted to the jewelry counter and we were alone.Yes? She held her leg out, twisting her ankle to get a better view of the shoe.I chickened out. I like those.I think Ill get them though theyll never match anything but the one dress, she mused.Oh, go ahead theyre on sale, I encouraged. She smiled, putting the lid back on a box that contained more practical-looking off-white shoes.I tried again. Um, Angela She looked up curiously. Is it practice for the Cullens I kept my eyes on the shoes to be out of school a lot? I failed miserably in my attempt to sound nonchalant.Yes, when the weather is good they go backpacking all the m even the doctor. Theyre all real outdoorsy, she told me quietly, examining her shoes, besides. She didnt ask one question, let alone the hundreds that Jessica would have unleashed. I was beginning to really like Angela.Oh. I let the subject drop as Jessica returned to show us the rhinestone jewelry shed found to match her funds shoes. We mean to go to dinner at a little Italian restaurant on the boardwalk, but the dress shopping hadnt taken as long as wed expected. Jess and Angela were going to tak e their clothes back to the machine and then walk down to the bay. I told them I would meet them at the restaurant in an hr I wanted to look for a bookstore. They were both willing to come with me, but I encouraged them to go have fun they didnt know how heedless I could get when surrounded by books it was something I preferred to do alone. They walked off to the car chattering happily, and I headed in the direction Jess pointed out.I had no bother finding the bookstore, but it wasnt what I was looking for. The windows were wax of crystals, dream-catchers, and books about spiritual healing. I didnt even go inside. Through the glass I could see a fifty-year-old woman with long, gray hair worn straight down her back, clad in a dress make up out of the sixties, smiling welcomingly from buttocks the counter. I decided that was one conversation I could skip. There had to be a normal bookstore in town.I meandered through the streets, which were filling up with end-of-the-workday traffic, and hoped I was headed toward downtown. I wasnt paying as much attention as I should to where I was going I was wrestling with despair. I was trying so hard not to think about him, and what Angela had said and more than anything trying to beat down my hopes for Saturday, fearing a disappointment more painful than the rest, when I looked up to see someones silver Volvo parked along the street and it all came crashing down on me. Stupid, unreliable vampire, I sen beatnt to myself.I stomped along in a southerly direction, toward some glass-fronted shops that looked promising. But when I got to them, they were just a repair shop and a vacant space. I still had too much time to go looking for Jess and Angela yet, and I definitely needed to get my mood in flip over before I met back up with them. I ran my fingers through my hair a couple of times and took some deep breaths before I continued around the corner.I started to realize, as I crossed other road, that I was going the wrong direction. The little foot traffic I had seen was going north, and it looked like the buildings here were mostly warehouses. I decided to turn eastward at the next corner, and then loop around after a few blocks and try my luck on a different street on my way back to the boardwalk.A group of four men turned around the corner I was mien for, dressed too casually to be heading home from the office, but they were too grimy to be tourists. As they approached me, I realized they werent too many years older than I was. They were intercommunicate loudly among themselves, laughing raucously and punching each others arms. I scooted as far to the inside of the sidewalk as I could to give them room, walking swiftly, looking retiring(a) them to the corner.Hey, there one of them called as they passed, and he had to be talking to me since no one else was around. I glanced up automatically. Two of them had paused, the other two were wordying. The closest, a heavyset, brunet man in his early twenties, looked to be the one who had mouthn. He was wearing a flannel shirt open over a dirty t-shirt, cut-off jeans, and sandals. He took half a step toward me.Hello, I mumbled, a knee-jerk reaction. and so I quickly looked away and walked faster toward the corner. I could uplift them laughing at full volume target me.Hey, wait one of them called after me again, but I kept my head down and rounded the corner with a sigh of relief. I could still comprehend them chortling behind me.I found myself on a sidewalk leading past the backs of some(prenominal) somber-colored warehouses, each with large bay doors for set down trucks, padlocked for the night. The south side of the street had no sidewalk, scarce a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire protecting some kind of engine move storage yard. Id wandered far past the part of Port Angeles that I, as a guest, was intended to see. It was getting dark, I realized, the clouds finally returning, piling up on the occident al horizon, creating an early sunset. The eastern sky was still clear, but graying, shot through with streaks of pink and orange. Id left my ceiling in the car, and a sudden shiver do me cross my arms tightly across my chest. A single van passed me, and then the road was empty. The sky suddenly darkened further, and, as I looked over my shoulder to glare at the offending cloud, I realized with a shock that two men were walking quietly twenty feet behind me.They were from the aforementioned(prenominal) group Id passed at the corner, though neither was the dark one whod spoken to me. I turned my head forward at once, quickening my pace. A demoralise that had nothing to do with the weather made me shiver again. My purse was on a shoulder strap and I had it slung across my body, the way you were supposed to wear it so it wouldnt get snatched. I knew exactly where my pepper spray was still in my duffle bag under the bed, never unpacked. I didnt have much money with me, just a twenty and some ones, and I thought about accidentally dropping my bag and walking away. But a small, affright join in the back of my mind warned me that they might be something worse than thieves.I listened intently to their quiet footsteps, which were much too quiet when compared to the boisterous disagreement theyd been making earlier, and it didnt sound like they were hurrying up, or getting any closer to me. Breathe, I had to remind myself. You dont know theyre following you. I continued to walk as quickly as I could without actually running, focusing on the right-hand turn that was only a few yards away from me now. I could hear them, staying as far back as theyd been before. A blue car turned onto the street from the south and drove quickly past me. I thought of jumping out in front of it, but I hesitated, inhibited, unsure that I was really being pursued, and then it was too late.I reached the corner, but a swift glance revealed that it was only a blind drive to the back of an other building. I was half-turned in anticipation I had to hurriedly correct and film across the narrow drive, back to the sidewalk. The street ended at the next corner, where there was a stop sign. I concentrated on the faint footsteps behind me, deciding whether or not to run. They sounded farther back, though, and I knew they could outrun me in any case. I was sure to trip and go sprawling if I tried to go any faster. The footfalls were definitely farther back. I risked a quick glance over my shoulder, and they were maybe forty feet back now, I saw with relief. But they were both staring at me.It seemed to take forever for me to get to the corner. I kept my pace steady, the men behind me falling ever so slightly farther behind with every step. Maybe they realized they had scared me and were sorry. I saw two cars going north pass the intersection I was heading for, and I exhaled in relief. There would be more people around once I got off this deserted street. I skipped around the corner with a grateful sigh. And skidded to a stop. The street was lined on both sides by blank, doorless, windowless walls. I could see in the distance, two intersections down, streetlamps, cars, and more pedestrians, but they were all too far away. Because lounging against the western building, midway down the street, were the other two men from the group, both reflexion with excited smiles as I froze dead on the sidewalk. I realized then that I wasnt being followed.I was being herded.I paused for only a second, but it felt like a very long time. I turned then and darted to the other side of the road. I had a sinking feeling that it was a wasted attempt. The footsteps behind me were louder now. There you are The din express of the stocky, dark-haired man shattered the intense quiet and made me jump. In the gathering darkness, it seemed like he was looking past me.Yeah, a constituent called loudly from behind me, making me jump again as I tried to hurry down the street. We just t ook a little detour. My steps had to slow now. I was closing the distance between myself and the lounging pair too quickly. I had a good loud scream, and I sucked in air, preparing to use it, but my throat was so dry I wasnt sure how much volume I could manage. With a quick movement I slipped my purse over my head, gripping the strap with one hand, ready to surrender it or use it as weapon as need demanded. The thickset man shrugged away from the wall as I warily came to a stop, and walked slowly into the street.Stay away from me, I warned in a enunciate that was supposed to sound strong and fearless. But I was right about the dry throat no volume.Dont be like that, sugar, he called, and the raucous laughter started again behind me.I braced myself, feet apart, trying to telephone through my panic what little self-defense I knew. Heel of the hand thrust upward, hopefully breaking the nose or shoving it into the brain. Finger through the eye socket try to hook around and pop the eye out. And the standard knee to the groin, of course. That same pessimistic voice in my mind spoke up then, reminding me that I credibly wouldnt have a chance against one of them, and there were four. Shut up I commanded the voice before terror could incapacitate me. I wasnt going out without taking someone with me. I tried to swallow so I could build up a decent scream.Headlights suddenly flew around the corner, the car almost hitting the stocky one, forcing him to jump back toward the sidewalk. I dove into the road this car was going to stop, or have to hit me. But the silver car unexpectedly fishtailed around, skidding to a stop with the passenger door open just a few feet from me.Get in, a furious voice commanded. It was terrible how instantaneously the choking fear vanished, amazing how suddenly the feeling of security washed over me even before I was off the street as soon as I heard his voice. I jumped into the pose, slamming the door shut behind me.It was dark in the car, no light had come on with the chess opening of the door, and I could barely see his face in the glow from the dashboard. The tires squealed as he spun around to face north, accelerating too quickly, swerving toward the stunned men on the street. I caught a glimpse of them diving for the sidewalk as we straightened out and sped toward the harbor.Put on your seat belt, he commanded, and I realized I was clutching the seat with both hands. I quickly obeyed the snap as the belt connected was loud in the darkness. He took a sharp left, racing forward, blowing through several stop signs without a pause. But I felt utterly safe and, for the moment, totally unconcerned about where we were going. I stared at his face in unintelligible relief, relief that went beyond my sudden deliverance. I studied his flawless features in the limited light, waiting for my breath to return to normal, until it occurred to me that his expression was murderously angry. Are you all right? I asked, surprised at how hoarse my voice sounded. No, he said curtly, and his tone was livid.I sat in silence, watching his face while his conspicuous eyes stared straight ahead, until the car came to a sudden stop. I glanced around, but it was too dark to see anything beside the vague outline of dark trees crowding the roadside. We werent in town anymore.Bella? he asked, his voice tight, controlled.Yes? My voice was still rough. I tried to clear my throat quietly. Are you all right? He still didnt look at me, but the fury was plain on his face.Yes, I croaked softly.Distract me, please, he ordered.Im sorry, what?He exhaled sharply.Just prattle about something unimportant until I cool off down, he clarified, closing his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger.Um. I wracked my brain for something trivial. Im going to run over Tyler Crowley tomorrow before school? He was still squeezing his eyes closed, but the corner of his mouth twitched. Why?Hes telling everyone that hes tak ing me to prom either hes insane or hes still trying to make up for almost killing me last well, you remember it, and he thinks prom is somehow the correct way to do this. So I traffic pattern if I endanger his life, then were even, and he cant lapse trying to make amends. I dont need enemies and maybe Lauren would back off if he left me alone. I might have to total his Sentra, though. If he doesnt have a ride he cant take anyone to prom I babbled on.I heard about that. He sounded a bit more composed. You did? I asked in disbelief, my previous irritation flaring. If hes paralyzed from the neck down, he cant go to the prom, either, I muttered, refining my plan.Edward sighed, and finally open his eyes.Better? Not really.I waited, but he didnt speak again. He leaned his head back against the seat, staring at the ceiling of the car. His face was rigid.Whats wrong? My voice came out in a whisper.Sometimes I have a problem with my temper, Bella. He was whispering, too, and as he stared out the window, his eyes narrowed into slits. But it wouldnt be helpful for me to turn around and hunt down those He didnt finish his sentence, looking away, struggling for a moment to control his anger again. At least, he continued, thats what Im trying to convince myself.Oh. The word seemed inadequate, but I couldnt think of a better response. We sat in silence again. I glanced at the time on the dashboard. It was past six-thirty.Jessica and Angela will be worried, I murmured. I was supposed to meet them.He started the engine without another word, turning around swimmingly and speeding back toward town. We were under the streetlights in no time at all, still going too fast, weaving with ease through the cars slowly cruising the boardwalk. He parallel-parked against the rule in a space I would have thought much too small for the Volvo, but he slid in effortlessly in one try. I looked out the window to see the lights of La Bella Italia, and Jess and Angela just leaving, pacing anxi ously away from us.How did you know where ? I began, but then I just agitate my head. I heard the door open and turned to see him getting out. What are you doing? I asked.Im taking you to dinner. He smiled slightly, but his eyes were hard. He stepped out of the car and slammed the door. I fumbled with my seat belt, and then hurried to get out of the car as well. He was waiting for me on the sidewalk. He spoke before I could. Go stop Jessica and Angela before I have to track them down, too. I dont think I could restrain myself if I ran into your other friends again.I shivered at the threat in his voice.Jess Angela I yelled after them, waving when they turned. They rushed back to me, the pronounced relief on both their faces simultaneously ever-changing to surprise as they saw who I was standing next to. They hesitated a few feet from us.Where have you been? Jessicas voice was suspicious.I got lost, I admitted sheepishly. And then I ran into Edward. I gestured toward him.Would it be al l right if I joined you? he asked in his silken, irresistible voice. I could see from their staggered expressions that he had never unleashed his talents on them before.Er sure, Jessica breathed.Um, actually, Bella, we already ate while we were waiting sorry, Angela confessed.Thats fine Im not hungry. I shrugged.I think you should eat something. Edwards voice was low, but full of authority. He looked up at Jessica and spoke slightly louder. Do you mind if I drive Bella home tonight? That way you wont have to wait while she eats.Uh, no problem, I guess She bit her lip, trying to figure out from my expression whether that was what I wanted. I winked at her. I wantednothing more than to be alone with my eonian savior. There were so many questions that I couldnt bombard him with till we were by ourselves.Okay. Angela was quicker than Jessica. See you tomorrow, Bella Edward. She grabbed Jessicas hand and pulled her toward the car, which I could see a little ways away, parked across F irst Street. As they got in, Jess turned and waved, her face eager with curiosity. I waved back, waiting for them to drive away before I turned to face him.Honestly, Im not hungry, I insisted, looking up to scrutinize his face. His expression was unreadable.Humor me.He walked to the door of the restaurant and held it open with an obstinate expression. Obviously, there would be no further discussion. I walked past him into the restaurant with a resigned sigh. The restaurant wasnt crowded it was the off-season in Port Angeles. The host was female, and I understood the look in her eyes as she assessed Edward. She welcomed him a little more warmly than necessary. I was surprised by how much that bothered me. She was several inches taller than I was, and unnaturally blond.A table for two? His voice was alluring, whether he was aiming for that or not. I saw her eyes flicker to me and then away, satisfied by my obvious ordinariness, and by the cautious, no-contact space Edward kept between us. She led us to a table big enough for four in the center of the most crowded area of the dining floor.I was about to sit, but Edward shook his head at me.Perhaps something more private? he insisted quietly to the host. I wasnt sure, but it looked like he smoothly handed her a tip. Id never seen anyone refuse a table except in old movies.Sure. She sounded as surprised as I was. She turned and led us around a partition to a small ring of booths all of them empty. Hows this?Perfect. He flashed his gleaming smile, dazing her momentarily.Um she shook her head, blinking your server will be right out. She walked away unsteadily. You really shouldnt do that to people, I criticized. Its hardly fair.Do what?Dazzle them like that shes probably hyperventilating in the kitchen right now.He seemed confused.Oh, come on, I said dubiously. You have to know the effect you have on people. He tilted his head to one side, and his eyes were curious. I dazzle people? You havent spy? Do you think eve rybody gets their way so easily? He ignored my questions. Do I dazzle you? Frequently, I admitted. And then our server arrived, her face expectant. The stewardess had definitely dished behind the scenes, and this new girl didnt look disappointed. She flipped a strand of short black hair behind one ear and smiled with unneeded warmth.Hello. My name is Amber, and Ill be your server tonight. What can I getyou to drink? I didnt miss that she was speaking only to him.He looked at me.Ill have a Coke. It sounded like a question. Two Cokes, he said.Ill be right back with that, she assured him with another unnecessary smile. But he didnt see it. He was watching me.What? I asked when she left. His eyes stayed fixed on my face. How are you feeling?Im fine, I replied, surprised by his intensity. You dont feel dizzy, sick, parky ?Should I?He chuckled at my stupefy tone.Well, Im actually waiting for you to go into shock. His face twisted up into that perfect crooked smile.I dont think that will hap pen, I said after I could breathe again. Ive always been very good at repressing unpleasant things.Just the same, Ill feel better when you have some sugar and food in you.Right on cue, the waitress appeared with our drinks and a basket of breadsticks. She stood with her back to me as she placed them on the table. Are you ready to order? she asked Edward.Bella? he asked. She turned unwillingly toward me.I picked the first thing I saw on the menu. Um Ill have the mushroom ravioli. And you? She turned back to him with a smile.Nothing for me, he said. Of course not. permit me know if you change your mind. The coy smile was still in place, but he wasnt looking at her, and she left dissatisfied.Drink, he ordered.I sipped at my papa obediently, and then drank more deeply, surprised by how thirsty I was. I realized I had finished the whole thing when he pushed his glass toward me.Thanks, I muttered, still thirsty. The cold from the icy soda was radiating through my chest, and I shivered. Are you cold? Its just the Coke, I explained, shivering again.Dont you have a jacket? His voice was disapproving.Yes. I looked at the empty bench next to me. Oh I left it in Jessicas car, I realized.Edward was shrugging out of his jacket. I suddenly realized that I had never once noticed what he was wearing not just tonight, but ever. I just couldnt seem to look away from his face. I made myself look now, focusing. He was removing a light beige leather jacket now underneath hewore an ivory turtleneck sweater. It fit him snugly, emphasizing how mesomorphic his chest was.He handed me the jacket, interrupting my ogling. Thanks, I said again, sliding my arms into his jacket. It was cold the way my jacket felt when I first picked it up in the morning, hanging in the drafty hallway. I shivered again. It smelled amazing. I inhaled, trying to identify the delicious smelling. It didnt smell like cologne. The sleeves were much too long I shoved them back so I could free my hands. That color blue looks lovely with your skin, he said, watching me. I was surprised I looked down, flushing, of course. He pushed the bread basket toward me.Really, Im not going into shock, I protested. You should be a normal person would be. You dont even look shaken. He seemed unsettled. He stared into my eyes, and I saw how light his eyes were, transport than Id ever seen them, golden butterscotch.I feel very safe with you, I confessed, mesmerized into telling the truth again. That displeased him his alabaster brow furrowed. He shook his head, frowning. This is more complicated than Id planned, he murmured to himself.I picked up a breadstick and began nibbling on the end, measuring his expression. I wondered when it would be okay to start questioning him. usually youre in a better mood when your eyes are so light, I commented, trying to distract him from whatever thought had left him frowning and somber. He stared at me, stunned. What?Youre always crabbier when your eyes are black I expect it then , I went on. I have a theory about that. His eyes narrowed. more than theories?Mm-hm. I chewed on a small bite of the bread, trying to look indifferent.I hope you were more creative this time or are you still stealing from comic books? His faint smile was mocking his eyes were still tight.Well, no, I didnt get it from a comic book, but I didnt come up with it on my own, either, I confessed. And? he prompted. But then the waitress strode around the partition with my food. I realized wed been unconsciously leaning toward each other across the table, because we both straightened up as she approached. She set the dish in front of me it looked pretty good and turned quickly to Edward.Did you change your mind? she asked. Isnt there anything I can get you? I may have been imagining the double meaning in her words. No, thank you, but some more soda would be nice. He gestured with a long white hand to the empty cups in front of me.Sure. She removed the empty glasses and walked away. You were s aying? he asked.Ill tell you about it in the car. If I paused. There are conditions? He raised one eyebrow, his voice ominous.I do have a few questions, of course.Of course. The waitress was back with two more Cokes. She sat them down without a word this time, and left again.I took a sip.Well, go ahead, he pushed, his voice still hard.I started with the most undemanding. Or so I thought. Why are you in Port Angeles? He looked down, folding his large hands unneurotic slowly on the table. His eyes flickered up at me from under his lashes, the hint of a smirk on his face.Next.But thats the easiest one, I objected.Next, he repeated.I looked down, frustrated. I unrolled my silverware, picked up my fork, and carefully speared a ravioli. I put it in my mouth slowly, still looking down, chewing while I thought. The mushrooms were good. I swallowed and took another sip of Coke before I looked up.Okay, then. I glared at him, and continued slowly. Lets say, hypothetically of course, that someone could know what people are thinking, read minds, you know with a few exceptions.Just one exception, he corrected, hypothetically. either right, with one exception, then. I was thrilled that he was playing along, but I tried to seem casual. How does that work? What are the limitations? How would that someone find someone else at exactly the right time? How would he know she was in trouble? I wondered if my convoluted questions even made sense.Hypothetically? he asked.Sure.Well, if that someoneLets call him Joe, I suggested. He smiled wryly. Joe, then. If Joe had been paying attention, the timing wouldnt have needed to be quite so exact. He shook his head, rolling his eyes. Only you could get into trouble in a town this small. You would have devastated their crime rate statistics for a decade, you know.We were speaking of a hypothetical case, I reminded him frostily. He laughed at me, his eyes warm.Yes, we were, he agreed. Shall we call you Jane? How did you know? I asked, unable to cur b my intensity. I realized I was leaning toward him again. He seemed to be wavering, torn by some inhering dilemma. His eyes locked with mine, and I guessed he was making the decision right then whether or not to simply tell me the truth. You can trust me, you know, I murmured. I reached forward, withoutthinking, to touch his folded hands, but he slid them away minutely, and I pulled my hand back.I dont know if I have a choice anymore. His voice was almost a whisper. I was wrong youre much more observant than I gave you credit for.I thought you were always right.I used to be. He shook his head again. I was wrong about you on one other thing, as well. Youre not a magnet for accidents thats not a broad enough classification. You are a magnet for trouble. If there is anything dangerous within a ten-mile radius, it will invariably find you.And you put yourself into that category? I guessed. His face turned cold, expressionless. Unequivocally.I stretched my hand across the table again i gnoring him when he pulled back slightly once more to touch the back of his hand shyly with my fingertips. His skin was cold and hard, like a stone.Thank you. My voice was fervent with gratitude. Thats twice now.His face softened. Lets not try for three, agreed?I scowled, but nodded. He moved his hand out from under mine, placing both of his under the table. But he leaned toward me.I followed you to Port Angeles, he admitted, speaking in a rush. Ive never tried to keep a specific person alive before, and its much more troublesome than I would have believed. But thats probably just because its you. Ordinary people seem to make it through the day without so many catastrophes. He paused. I wondered if it should bother me that he was following me instead I felt a oddish surge of pleasure. He stared, maybe wondering why my lips were curving into an involuntary smile.Did you ever think that maybe my number was up the first time, with the van, and that youve been interfering with dower? I speculated, distracting myself. That wasnt the first time, he said, and his voice was hard to hear. I stared at him in amazement, but he was looking down. Your number was up the first time I met you.I felt a spasm of fear at his words, and the abrupt memory of his violent black glare that first day but the overwhelming sense of safety I felt in his presence stifled it. By the time he looked up to read my eyes, there was no trace of fear in them. You remember? he asked, his angels face grave.Yes. I was calm. And yet here you sit. There was a trace of disbelief in his voice he raised one eyebrow.Yes, here I sit because of you. I paused. Because somehow you knew how to find me today ? I prompted. He pressed his lips together, staring at me through narrowed eyes, deciding again. His eyes flashed down to my full plate, and then back to me.You eat, Ill talk, he bargained.I quickly scooped up another ravioli and popped it in my mouth. Its harder than it should be keeping track of you. Usual ly I can find someone very easily, once Ive heard their mind before. He looked at me anxiously, and I realized I had frozen. I made myself swallow, then stabbed another ravioli and tossed it in.I was keeping tabs on Jessica, not carefully like I said, only you could find trouble in Port Angeles and at first I didnt notice when you took off on your own. Then, when I realized that you werent with her anymore, I went looking for you at the bookstore I saw in her head. I could tell that you hadnt gone in, and that youd gone south and I knew you would have to turn around soon. So I was just waiting for you, randomly searching through the thoughts of people on the street to see if anyone had noticed you so I would know where you were. I had no reason to be worried but I was strangely anxious He was lost in thought, staring past me, seeing things I couldnt imagine.I started to drive in circles, still listening. The sun was finally setting, and I was about to get out and follow you on fo ot. And then - He stopped, clenching his teeth together in sudden fury. He made an effort to calm himself. Then what? I whispered. He continued to stare over my head.I heard what they were thinking, he growled, his upper lip curling slightly back over his teeth. I saw your face in his mind. He suddenly leaned forward, one elbow visual aspect on the table, his hand covering his eyes. The movement was so swift it startled me.It was very hard you cant imagine how hard for me to simply take you away, and leave them alive. His voice was muffled by his arm. I could have let you go with Jessica and Angela, but I was afraid if you left me alone, I would go looking for them, he admitted in a whisper.I sat quietly, dazed, my thoughts incoherent. My hands were folded in my lap, and I was leaning weakly against the back of the seat. He still had his face in his hand, and he was as still as if hed been carved from the stone his skin resembled. Finally he looked up, his eyes seeking mine, full o f his own questions. Are you ready to go home? he asked.Im ready to leave, I qualified, overly grateful that we had the hour-long ride home together. I wasnt ready to say goodbye to him.The waitress appeared as if shed been called. Or watching. How are we doing? she asked Edward. Were ready for the check, thank you. His voice was quiet, rougher, still reflecting the strain of our conversation. It seemed to muddle her. He looked up, waiting.S-sure, she stuttered. Here you go. She pulled a small leather folder from the front pocket of her black apron and handed it to him. There was a bill in his hand already. He slipped it into the folder and handed it right back to her.No change. He smiled. Then he stood up, and I scrambled awkwardly to my feet. She smiled invitingly at him again. You have a nice evening. He didnt look away from me as he thanked her. I suppressed a smile. He walked close beside me to the door, still careful not to touch me. I remembered what Jessica had said about her relat ionship with Mike, how they were almost to the first-kiss stage. I sighed. Edward seemed to hear me, and he looked down curiously. I looked at the sidewalk, grateful that he didnt seem to be able to know what I was thinking. He opened the passenger door, place it for me as I stepped in, shutting it softly behind me. I watched him walk around the front of the car, amazed, yet again, by how graceful he was. I probably should have been used to that by now but I wasnt. I had a feeling Edward wasnt thekind of person anyone got used to.Once inside the car, he started the engine and turned the heater on high. It had gotten very cold, and I guessed the good weather was at an end. I was warm in his jacket, though, breathing in the scent of it when I thought he couldnt see.Edward pulled out through the traffic, apparently without a glance, flipping around to head toward the freeway. Now, he said significantly, its your turn.

How Much Ado About Nothing uses the comic genre to allow Shakespeare to expose and criticise Human Flaws

When Benedict states that happy atomic number 18 they that hear their distractions and can put them to manpowerding, he is stating that spirits are able to recognise flaws within their own character and, more importantly, are able to fix them. One conventional aspect of Elizabethan society, that is very everywheremuch evident within Much Ado about Nothing, is social inequality. In Shakespeares play, women are portrayed as being powerless in their own lives and in everything around them. In Elizabethan society, men were dominant over women and made all the important decisions. In Much Ado About Nothing, the men frequently make badness decisions, and is a recurring theme throughout the play. Although Shakespeare was a product of his time, and accepted social norms and values, he demonstrated an understanding of womens subjection by men in his work. The comic genre allows Shakespeare to push the boundaries when challenging social conventions. For fount, Shakespeare is able to po rtray Beatrice as a feisty, sharp, intelligent woman. The sense of hearing are naturally, more open-minded because they realise that the play is a comedy and theyre suppose to find it funny. As a consequence, this gives Shakespeare more freedom to create comedy within the play. In Shakespeares Much Ado About Nothing, Claudio is flawed character, although not appearing so initially he is shown as a distinguished soldier under the summons of move into Pedro, Prince of Arragon. In the first base act, Claudio is introduced to the audience via a discussion between Leonato and a messenger in the presence of Leonatos young woman, Hero, and his niece Beatrice, whereby the audience hear of Claudios heroism and admirability during the war and that Don Pedro regards him highly and has, bestowed much honor upon him.The messenger also suggests that Claudio has done tremendously well, as He hath borne himself beyond the see of his age, suggesting Claudio is a mature character. The absence o f Claudio from this scene means that the audience judge him based on what they dedicate heard about him, as a consequence their first impression of Claudio is very positive. However, throughout the play the audience are introduced to his flaws of immatureness, haste and overcharge which all contradict with their first impression of him. Although the audiences introduction to Claudio suggests maturity, this is proven to be false throughout the play.In a discussion between Claudio and Benedick, Claudio recognises that falling in love too quickly is a mark of immaturity, concerned that liking might too sudden seem. However, after one silent get-together of characters, Claudio finds himself in love with Hero and instantaneously talks longing that, Hero would be my wife. Therefore, Claudio seems to do the exact opposite to the statement in the question and adopts a distraction that he has already heard, acting in a contradictory manner and emphasises his immaturity. As well as this, Claudio is gullible, and allows he to be deceived by Don toilet into believing that Don Pedro has wooed Hero for himself, my brother is amorous on Hero, and hath withdrawn her father to break with him about it. Through Shakespeares use of melodramatic irony, the audience feel discomfited with Claudio, as he instantly believes this false allegation without question, Tis certain so, the prince woos for himself. Furthermore, Claudio lacks the courage to watch Don Pedro about the allegation, hence choosing to blindly believe Don John over Don Pedro and Benedick, without seeking the truth, Ho now you strike like the blind man. The audience feel forbid because they know that Don Pedro is innocent, however they cant locomote this information onto Claudio and are forced to watch the consequences unfold. Additionally, the audience feel frustrated with Claudio because it doesnt seem likely that Don Pedro would betray Claudio due to the fact they have fought alongside each other at war and share a good relationship. However, the audience can sympathise with Claudio because his encounter with Don John at the masked ball was a setup in order to trick him.Due to the theme of the ball, whereby everyone had to wear masks and conceal their identity, Claudio thought that by pretending to be Benedick, he could deceive Don John and Borachio. By way of contrast, the opposite happens as Claudio believes that Don John thinks he is speaking with Benedick, Are not you signior Benedick, You know me well, I am he. As a consequence, Don John finds it much easier to deceive Claudio. When Don Pedro asks Claudio, wherefore are you perturbing, Claudio intentionally replies with very brief, indirect responses that forces Don Pedro to investigate into the matter further.I believe by doing this, Claudio fulfils his need for attention, which in itself is a sign of immaturity. For example, Claudio replies with Not sad, my lord, stopping to allow Don Pedro to continue asking questions. As expected, Don Pedro replies, How then? Sick? In which Claudio replies Neither, my lord, again, allowing room for Don Pedro to investigate. However, Beatrice who allows the conversation to drivel on, interrupts this process, The count is neither sad, nor sick, nor merry, nor well but civil. After Claudio realises that Don John has deceived him at the masked ball, the audience expect Claudio to put his flaw to patch. However, Claudio fails to do this and allows himself to be deceived by Don John once again. The night before the wedding, Don John deceives both Don Pedro and Claudio into believing that Hero is disloyal and has slept with another man. Don Pedro questions the allegation at first I will not think it whereas Claudio is quick to believe it to an extent May this be so? The fact Don Pedro is able to question the allegation shines a negative light upon Claudio who should not question Heros dishonesty. The audience feel frustrated with Claudio through Shakespeares use of dra matic irony, allowing the audience to know the truth that Hero is innocent, especially when Claudio rushes to plan his revenge, whereby he will wed, there will I shame her. Women in Elizabethan times were objectified and became possessions of their husbands. They would not have attended school and their education would have been purely of domestic nature in provision for marriage. As men were seen as the superior figure that provided for him and his family, their pride and dignity meant the world to them. Therefore, to be a cuckold (a man married to an unfaithful wife) associated much shame and brought down the males social standing. Baring this in mind, a contemporary audience would be more sympathetic with Claudios blizzard decision as they would share a better understanding of Claudios fear of shame. On the other hand, a modern audience would not be as sympathetic because social norms and values, especially gender inequality, has changed. However, the audience cannot entirely bl ame Claudio because he believes that he actually witnessed the supposed affair. On the other hand, the audience blame him for not confronting Hero, just like he failed to confront Don Pedro after the masked ball. Evidently, Claudio has not recognised his flaw of being deceptable to lies and failing to confront them, therefore failing to fix it. Through dramatic irony, the audience know that Hero is completely innocent. In addition to this, they also know that Claudio intends to publically reduce her at the wedding. The audience sympathise with Hero, especially when they see how excited she is before the wedding, God give me joy to wear it for my heart is exceeding heavy. On the sidereal day of the wedding ceremony, Leonato shows that he shares the tendency to rush into conclusions like Claudio. When Claudio publicly shames Hero, Not to be married, not to knit my soul to an approved wanton. Leonato at first defends Heros honor, Dear my lord, if you in your own proof made defeat of her virginity. Its only when Don Pedro supports the claim made by Claudio that his daughter has slept with another man that Leonato suddenly believes the claims made and turns against his own daughter. Leonato even goes as far as saying that he regrets having a daughter, and Death is the fairest espouse for her shame. Leonato understands that no other man will marry Hero because they will become a cuckold, bringing shame to himself therefore Hero has null to support her, as she is unable(p) to support herself due to the conventional norms of the Elizabethan period. The audience are shocked by Leonatos reaction because through dramatic irony, they know Hero is innocent. However, the audience also know that by comparing the ending of a comedy to a tragedy, that no serious consequences will be inflicted upon her. It is not until Friar Francis is introduced that Leonato seems like a failed father, because Friar Francis doubts Heros disloyalty and so offers a chance of redemption, with a practical plan to prove her honesty.Leonato is unable to believe his own daughter over the Prince and Claudio whereas a stranger can, emphasising his failure as a father. It is also arguable that Leonatos pride clouded his perspicacity when choosing to believe his daughters innocence and is the reason why he was quick to believe the allegation when Don Pedro supported it, suggesting that maturity is the trait about lacking in all of the plays characters their susceptibility to pride and deception, and their inability to think before displace their conclusions, are more about immaturity than any other quality. However, towards the end of the play Leonato loses interest in pride, replacing it with the determination to be a better father. Leonato confronts Don Pedro and Claudio with resentment, whilst trying to remain courteous, over publicly shaming his daughter whilst she was innocent. In confrontation, Leonato addresses Claudio as immature, stating that If thou killst me, boy, thou shalt kill a man. Leonato reminds Claudio that thou hast killd my child, and expresses that if he kills Leonato, he will at least kill a man and not an innocent child.Similarly, Leonato isnt the only character in the play to call Claudio a boy, for example Antonio calls Claudio a boy a few times when he demands Claudio to come, follow me, boy come, sir boy, come, follow me. As well as this, Benedick later on says to Claudio, Fare you well, boy I will leave you now to your gossip-like humour. This evidence suggests that many other characters, as well as the audience see Claudio as an immature character. Although Leonato must talk with respect to the Prince, he speaks with sarcasm, Are you so hasty now? well, all is one. Therefore, its evident that Leonato has learned his lesson that his pride and loyalty to the Prince can turn him against his own family and that he shouldnt let anyone influence his own judgment. Additionally, the view of susceptibility to pride and deception i s strengthened from the fleck of view of a modern audience, because to criticise the characters on the grounds of being susceptible to pride is contradictory to the social norms of the Elizabethan period. For example, an Elizabethan mans good name was of considerable worth to him and any action that tarnished it, would affect his social standing. However, Shakespeare highlights that susceptibility to pride and deception and the inability to think before drawing conclusions are major flaws found within the play and within Shakespearean society. It is through the comic genre that Shakespeare is able to portray his message that all of us, to some(prenominal) extent, have our own character-flaw(s) and its those who can fix them that benefit like Leonato.Furthermore, as the audience watch Much Ado About Nothing and jape at the character-flaws found within it, it makes them realise that their own character flaws can just as easily, be made fun of, as Comedy is fright and encourages co mplacency in those who laugh. Many throng have a fear of being laughed at because it makes them feel inferior. This is known as superiority theory, whereby people laugh at something or someone to make themselves seem superior. Due to this fear of being laughed at, people are more encouraged to fix the things that are comical, such as their human flaws.

Stefan’s Diaries: Origins Chapter 5

The next morning, I awoke to breathless news from Rosalyns servants that her prized dog, Penny, had been attacked. Mrs. Cartw even up summ wizardd me to her daughters chambers, saying nothing had stopped Rosalyn from screaming. At that, Rosalyn had flung her arms around me, crying so hard into my shoulder that her weeping left a wet mark on my waistcoat. I tried to be sympathetic, but I felt a stab of annoyance at the way she was carrying on. After all, Id never carried on uniform that when my mother had died. I didnt cry when, fitting a week after Mothers death, our nanny, Cordelia, began absentmindedly humming the French lullaby Mother had always sung. non when Father took down the portrait of Mother that had hung in the front room. Not even when Artemis, Mothers favorite horse, had to be put down.Did you appear the dog? Damon asked, as we walked into town together that wickedness to get a drink at the tavern. Now that the dinner where I was to publicly give notice to Rosalyn was on the button days away, we were heading kayoed for a whisky to celebrate my impending nuptials. At least, thats what Damon called it, elongating his accent to a flat Charlestonian drawl and wiggling his eyebrows as he said it. I tried to smile as if I thought it was a great joke, but if I began talking, I knew I wouldnt be able to nurture dressing my dismay just ab push through marrying Rosalyn. And there wasnt anything wrong with her. It was just it was just that she wasnt Katherine.I turned my thoughts gage to Penny. Y Its es. throat had a gash in it, but whatever the brute was didnt go for her innards. Strange, right? I s aid as I rushed to keep up with him. The army had made him stronger and faster. Its a strange time, brother, Damon said. Maybe its the Yankees, he teased with a smirk. As we walked down the cobblestone streets, I spy signs affixed to most doorways A reward of one hundred dollars was being offered to anyone who found the wild animal responsible for the attacks. I stared at the sign. Maybe I could find it, so take the money and debase a train ticket to Boston, or New Y ork, or rough city where no one could find me and no one had ever chance ond of Rosalyn Cartwright. I smiled to myself that would be something Damon might in reality dohe never worried about consequences or other peoples feelings. I was about to point out the sign and ask what hed do with one hundred dollars when I saw someone devilishly waving at us in front of the apothecary. Are those the Salvatore brothers? a voice called from up the street. I squinted across the twilight and saw dip, the apothecary, standing o utside her shop with her daughter, Anna. Pearl and Anna were two more victims of the war. Pearls preserve had died at the Vicksburg siege just last spring. After that, Pearl had found a bag in Mystic Falls, and she ran an apothecary that was always busy. Jonathan Gilbert, in particular, was almost always there when I walked by, kick about some ailment or purchasing some remedy or another. Town blab was that he fancied her.Pearl, you remember my brother, Damon? I called as we walked over the square to greet them.Pearl smiled and nodded. Her front was unlined, and a game among the girls was trying to determine how old she was. She had a daughter who was only a a couple of(prenominal) years younger than me, so she couldnt be that young. Y two certainly lookou handsome, she said fondly. Anna was the cough up image of her mother, and when they stood side by side, the two looked as if they could be sisters.Anna, you look more beautiful distributively year. Are you old enough to be going to dances yet? Damon asked, a twinkle in his eye. I smiled despite myself. Of course Damon would be able to charm both a mother and a daughter.Almost, Anna said, her eyes sparkling in anticipation. Fifteen was the age when girls were old enough to stay through dinner and hear the band strike up a waltz.Pearl used a wrought-iron key to lock the apothecary, then turned to face us. Damon, can you do me a favor? Can you make sure Katherine gets on tomorrow night? Shes a lovely girl, and, well, you complete how people talk about strangers. I knew her in Atlanta.I promise, Damon said solemnly.I stiffened. Was Damon escorting Katherine tomorrow night? I hadnt thought shed come to the party, and I couldnt opine proposing in front of her. only when what choice did I have? Tell Father that Katherine wasnt invited? Not propose to Rosalyn?Have fun tonight, boys, Pearl said, breaking me out of my reverie.Wait I called, the dinner momentarily forgotten.Pearl turned around, a quizzical e xpression on her face. Its dark, and there have been more attacks. Would you like us to escort you ladies home? I asked.Pearl agitate her head. Anna and I are strong women. Well be fine. in like manner She blushed and glanced around, as if afraid to be overheard. I believe Jonathan Gilbert wants to do that for us. But I do thank you for your concern.Damon wiggled his eyebrows and let out a low whistle. Y get it on how I feel about strong women,ou he whispered.Damon. Be appropriate, I said, slugging him on the shoulder. After all, he wasnt on the battlefields anymore. He was in Mystic Falls, a town where people liked to eavesdrop and loved to talk. Had he forgotten so quickly?Okay, Auntie Stefan Damon teased, raising his voice in a high lisp. I laughed despite myself and slugged him again on the arm for good measure. The punch was light, but felt gooda way to let loose some of my annoyance that he was able to escort Katherine to the dinner. He good-naturedly slugged me back, and we would have broken out into an all-out brotherly brawl if Damon hadnt pushed open the wooden door to the Mystic Falls Tavern. We were immediately greeted by an enthusiastic smile from the voluptuous, red-haired bar amah behind the counterpunch. It was clear that Damon had made himself at home here on several(prenominal) occasions. We elbowed our way to the back of the tavern. The room smelled of sawdust and sweat, and men in uniform were everywhere. Some had bandages on their heads, others wore slings, and some hobbled to the counter on crutches. I recognized Henry, a dark-skinned pass who practically lived at the tavern, alcohol addiction whiskey alone in a corner. Robert had told me stories about him He never socialized with anyone, and no one ever saw him in the light of day. There was talk that maybe he was associated with the attacks, but how could he be, if he was always at the tavern?I peeled my eyes away to take in the lay of the scene. There were older men tightly grou ped in a corner, playing cards and swallow whiskey and, in the opposite corner, a few women. I could tell from the rouge on their cheeks and their miscellaneous fingernails that they werent the types to spend time with our childhood playmates, Clementine Haverford or Amelia Hawke. As we walked past, one of them brushed my arm with her varicolored fingernails.Y like it here? Damon pulled out a woodenou table from the wall, an amused smile on his face.I suppose I do. I plunked down on the hard wooden bench and surveyed my milieu once again. Being in the tavern, I felt Id stumbled into a secret society of men, just one more thing I knew Id have little chance to discover before I was a married man and expected to be at home every evening. Ill get us some drinks, Damon said, making his way to the bar. I watched as he rested his elbows on the counter and easily talked to the barmaid, who tipped her head back and laughed as if hed said something hilarious. Which he probably had. Thats why all women fell in love with him.So, how does it feel to be a married man?I turned around to date stamp Dr. Janes behind me. Well into his seventies, Dr. Janes was slightly senile and often loudly proclaimed to anyone whod listen that his longevity was receivable exclusively to his prodigious indulgence in whiskey. Not married yet, Doctor. I smiled tightly, wishing Damon would come back with our drinks.Ah, my boy, but you will be. Mr. Cartwright at the bank has been discussing it for weeks. The fair young Rosalyn. Quite a catch Dr. Janes act loudly. I glanced around, hoping no one had heard. At that moment, Damon appeared and gently set our whiskeys on the table. Thank you, I said, drinking mine down in one gulp. Dr. Janes hobbled away. That thirsty, huh? Damon asked, taking a small sip of his own drink.I shrugged. In the past, Id never kept secrets from my brother. But talking about Rosalyn felt dangerous. Somehow, no matter what I said or felt, I still had to marry her. If any one heard even an inkling of regret from me, thered be no end to the talk.Suddenly, a new whiskey appeared in front of me. I glanced up to see the pretty bartender Damon had been talking to standing over our table.Y look like you need this. Seems youve had out a rough day. The barmaid winked one of her green eyes and set the sweating tumbler on the rough-hewn wooden table in front of me.Thank you, I said as I took a small, satisfying sip.Anytime, the barmaid said, her crinoline skirts swishing over her hips. I watched her retreating back. All the women in the tavern, even those with loose reputations, were more interesting than Rosalyn. But no matter who I glanced at, the only image that filled my mind was Katherines face.Alice likes you, Damon observed.I shook my head. You know I cant look. By the you end of summer, Ill be a married man. Y ou, meanwhile, are free to do as you please. Id meant it to be an observation, but the words came out as a judgment.Thats true, Damon said. But you do know you dont have to do something just because Father says so, right? Its not that simple. I clenched my jaw. Damon couldnt understand because he was wild and untamableso much so that Father had entrusted me, the younger brother, with the future of Veritas, a role I now found stifling.A sliver of betrayal shot through me at this thoughtthat it was Damons spot I had to shoulder so much responsibility. I shook my head, as if trying to remove the nous from it, and took another drink of whiskey. Its very simple, Damon said, oblivious to my momentary annoyance. Just tell him you are not in love with Rosalyn. That you need to find your own place in the world and cant just follow someones orders blindly. Thats what I learned in the army Y have to believe in what you do. Otherwise, ou whats the point?I shook my head. Im not like you. I trust Father. And I know he only wants the best. Its just that I wish I wish I had more time, I said finally. It was true. Maybe I could get to lo ve Rosalyn, but the thought that I could be married and have a child in just one short year filled me with dread. But itll be fine, I said with finality. It had to be.What do you approximate of our new houseguest? I said, changing the subject.Damon smiled. Katherine, he said, drawing the name into the full tierce syllables, as if he could taste it on his tongue. Now, shes a girl whos difficult to figure out, dont you agree?I suppose, I said, glad that Damon didnt I suppose, I said, glad that Damon didnt know that I was dreaming of Katherine at night, and by day pausing at the door to the carriage house to see if I could hear her laughing with her maid once I even stopped by the stable to smell the broad back of her horse, Clover, just to see if her lemon and ginger scent had lingered. It hadnt, and at that moment, in the barn surrounded by the horses, Id agnize how unbalanced I was becoming. They dont make girls like her in Mystic Falls. Do you think she has a soldier somewhere? D amon asked. No I said, annoyed once again. Shes in mourning for her parents. I hardly think shes looking for a beau.Of course. Damon knit his eyebrows together contritely. And I wasnt presuming anything. But if she needs a shoulder to cry on, Id be happy to lend it to her.I shrugged. Even though Id brought up the subject, I was no long-term sure I wanted to hear what Damon thought of her. In fact, as beautiful as she was, I almost wished that some far-flung relatives from Charleston or Richmond or Atlanta would step beforehand to invite her to live with them. If she were out of sight, then maybe I could somehow force myself to love Rosalyn.Damon stared at me, and I knew in that moment how miserable I must have looked. Cheer up, brother, he said. The night is young, and the whiskeys on me.But there wasnt enough whiskey in all of Virginia to make me love Rosalyn or forget about Katherine.
